atlanta locations | johns creek family photographer

After you've chosen the date for your photo session and your family's perfectly coordinating outfits, what's next? Location! This can be hard to choose but no matter the spot, I assure you that your images will be amazing. The most important thing is that YOU are in them. Location is secondary but can also help set the mood or vibe that you're going for with these portraits. I'm including some of my favorite shots from some of my favorite locations in the greater Atlanta area. I often do sessions on location in clients homes so know that is an option as well. But please know that I am always up for adventure and trying somewhere new!

amazing family ~ extended family portraits | alpharetta family photographer

I met this amazing family almost four years ago. I can't say enough about how wonderful and welcoming they are to everyone they meet. This session happened because the kids knew how much their mom needed family photos so this was their gift for mother's day. How perfect was this to forever capture their extended family at this point in time?? My good friend Amanda, who's little family I have photographed many times from newborn to family portraits, is one of the daughters that organized this and I am so grateful for her friendship and how her family has made me feel so included every time I am around them. Each member of the S family has so much contagious personality and joy that you can't help but love life when you're around them. Thank you for allowing me the chance to spend an evening with your crew, enjoying and capturing the spunk and amazing connections that are so prevalent in your lives! Enjoy this sneak peek of our time together!

happy siblings ~ 4 year and 9 month photos | Johns Creek Child Photographer

I was so happy to see this beautiful mama and her babies for an afternoon mommy and me session! Big sister Hazel is 4, and that's a 4 going on sixteen I might add! This precious girl is so smart, imaginative, and mature, I would happily hang out with her any day of the week. Baby brother Malachi has the most beautiful eyes and platinum blond hair and his smile would make anyone happy. These siblings mama is a special friend of mine - an intelligent, caring, loving (the list could go on) woman that Malachi and Hazel will be proud to always call her mommy. :) D family, this session was an honor and I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to capture these adorable kids and their mommy. Here are a few sneak peeks from our session - enjoy!

tiny newborn love | Johns Creek Newborn Photographer

I loved meeting this tiny newborn! 11 day old Vivian was such a lovely baby  I was so excited to see her family again. Her big brother Joseph was one of my very first newborn sessions! I had the opportunity to meet this sweet girl at Fresh 48 hospital session for her family. It was such a special time! Vivian’s mama looks so incredible after giving birth just 11 days ago (it's so not fair!)! I had the best time at our shoot. Newborn sessions have a special place in my heart I can't ever get enough of beautiful new baby features! HUGE congratulations to Alicia, Joshua, and big brother Joseph! Vivian is the perfect addition to your family. I hope these images will help you remember these early days with your little girl <3.

Fresh 48 Hospital Session | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

My first Fresh 48 session! Oh my goodness, this was so special. If you aren't familiar with a Fresh 48, these are in-hospital lifestyle photos that occur within the first 48 hours of baby's birth. I did my own when our Ryan was born in January and couldn't wait to offer this type of session to other families. I am so glad the Forsters were interested! As some of my first clients, it was meaningful to me to meet their sweet newborn Vivian at just 2 days old. I captured a variety of images for this family - hospital details, tiny newborn baby features and candid moments I thought they would want to remember. Fresh 48's will now be competing for my favorite type of session  I am looking forward to more of these in the future! To the Forsters, I hope these images bring back precious memories of the early hours with your baby girl! XOXO

One Year Session | Johns Creek Baby Photographer

Miss Avery is ONE!!!
Miss Avery is ONE!!! This was my first session back from maternity leave. I cannot tell you how excited I was to be back photographing these adorable kids  We met at a beautiful park in Johns Creek. The weather was absolutely perfect too!

Avery, her big brother Luke, and big sister Addison were too cute together. I loved my evening with them! I brought my 6 week old newborn Ryan as my “assistant” to the session and Avery NEEDED to have him. It was the most precious thing ever. Mom snuggled Ryan while I did the shoot. Then every time she walked away, Avery would reach her arms out and squeal for them to come back. At first we thought Miss Avery just wanted mom but later figured out she has a baby obsession. Might be time for baby Adams #4 ??? Right Amber?

Adams family, I had a blast with your children and hope that you enjoy these images! Happy 1st Birthday Avery!!!

family of 4 ~ beautiful sisters | milton family photographer

I met this awesome family of 4 through a friend of theirs who did their fall photos with me. Kacy reached out to me after seeing her friend's images that were taken on this very bridge. It is such a great spot and I love taking families here to this unique Atlanta setting. The time of year that the p family contacted me was perfect for a relaxed and fun setting.

We met in mid-December, after the rush of holiday photos, so we had the entire area ALL to ourselves! We started on the bridge and wandered around the park to hit the most scenic areas available. It was relaxed, this family loved to joke together, and because of that we got some pretty incredible images of the 4 of them! Thanks for a fun evening, p family! Enjoy some favorites from our time together...

family of 6 ~ 4 siblings | johns creek family photographer

I love photographing big families! This one was no exception. Melissa and I became fast friends through church and boys love playing together. She loves taking photos of her kids so I was honored that she asked me to do their family portraits this year! Because I know how important images are to her<3

We met on a warm december afternoon at a park in johns creek. I love the lighting in this field and we got some pretty amazing images of their family of 6. One reason big families are so fun because they always have the best time together...joking and laughing and teasing one another. All of that happened on this evening!

I hope you can see how your love for each other shows through these images, S family! Enjoy a sneak peek of our evening together!

2.20.2015
It's so hard to make yourself get in front of the camera when you're the one making the pictures happen. When my mom was in town to help, I was determined to get some shots with my boys. As moms, we may not love how we look (especially after giving birth!) but I know when I look back on these, I will be so thankful that I got in the frame. This is already one of my favorite photos so far this year.

2.21.2015

Newborn session overload of our tiny new Ryan!

At over 9 pounds, he's one of the biggest newborns that I've worked with. I thought maybe that would help him sleep deeper but no so much! He was pretty particular about which poses he would go into so I ended up spreading out my time to take his photos over a few days- the benefit and also the downside of having my own newborn model:) I kept wanting to do more! Ryan also was not a fan of the hats or being swaddled tightly but I did end up getting all the shots I wanted- hats and poses. Here are some of my favorites... (and I am still working on our lifestyle and family photos!)...

Project 365 | Week 4 | January 22-31, 2015 | Johns Creek, GA Lifestyle Family Photographer

Such an exciting and what felt like an incredibly loooooooong week! The days leading up to the birth of Ryan and our first couple days with him. My c section was originally scheduled for the 26th but our dr (who we love!), ended up traveling to see his first grand baby so we postponed until he got back. Baby and I held out but it really made this feel like the longest week ever.

22|365

Jack's preschool celebrates summer birthdays as half birthdays so Jack got to have a 1/2 birthday party on this day:) He was so excited and cute about getting to have a "party" and cupcakes. My friend Collette at Shaddy Cakes made the cupcakes with a cake flavor of cookies n cream. So yummy, everyone wanted more! And almost a month later, Jack is still talking about this day.

23|365

We gave jack this umbrella for Christmas and it is arguably his favorite present ever. He has also always been all about his rain boots and coat so on this rainy day I decided to take him to a local park for some puddle jumping. He only made it through this one jump and then was too upset that his pants and socks got wet. We'll have to do this more often!

24|365

Jack asks to read about baby brother every night. This Berenstein Bears book is one of his favorites!

25|365

On the lookout for Captain Hook!

26|365

"Double Tickles"
Part of the "night night go go daddy" routine that's been going on for almost 2 years on John's nights to put jack down. They have a long list of made up games that they play on our bed on these nights that produce lots of squeals and giggles!

27|365

One of Jack's frequent requests is to visit Whole Foods...its all about that cart and shopping for his foods.

Week three of project 365!
Some everyday adventures, some out of the ordinary. But a fun week to capture!

My new assistant. We were picking out paint colors for baby's room at Home Depot and Jack insisted on "helping" me take a picture. Now he does this almost every day!

So many good photos from the birthday party at INK today, I had such a hard time choosing... but finally settled on these because:

1. It was Millie's bday at ink
2. Our friend, Joel, makes the 365 pic
3. Michael covering Madeleine's mouth as she was trying to help blow out Millie's candle...lol
4. Jack and Millie's cousin are "helping" her blow the candle
5. (Pic #2) Jack stuffing his face with birthday cake- something we recently discovered that he loves!

Hopefully our last grocery trip before baby!

38 weeks. Comparing bellies.

My little assistant loves trips to the post office to mail photo orders.
Jack has been loving trips to the post office for about a year and a half now. He loves to put packages in the big door and knows the process of weighing and stamping first. I had to capture this moment of one of his favorite things.

A day in the life of a little superman... flying, preschool, napping...
These velcro cape tshirts are the cutest invention ever! I have been getting them in every size from Gap since started walking. He obviously loves them!

13|365 Garbage day is still so thrilling! But if they don't notice Jack watching and fail to honk at him, he gets very offended:/ This was a good day though, honks and waves all around!

canton mansion | johns creek real estate photographer

This was my first opportunity to dabble in real estate mansion photography. A client of mine hired me to photograph a 7000 square foot custom home that he helped to design and build. A dream home if I do say! All I can say is WOW, this homeowner will have an amazing place to rest and enjoy life. Enjoy these shots that we got of his newly finished home!

Project 365 | Week 1 - January 1-7, 2015 | Johns Creek, Alpharetta, GA Family Photographer

This year I have decided to embark on a Project 365... a photo a day for an entire year. I have been wanting to complete one of these personal projects for a couple years now, but finally felt the true motivation and desire to do it in 2015! With our new addition of baby brother at the end of this month, I know I'll have lots of great subject matter.

I hope to mostly capture each day with my d800 as a way of refining and expanding my photography skills but there may be some iPhone shots sprinkled throughout. So please excuse the quality of those few! Day 2 and Day 7 of this first week are iPhone captures - day 2 because I left my memory cards at home and day 7 because the moment happened and I only had my phone:)

Follow me on instagram and my personal Facebook to see daily shares. Search #ortonproject365 on instagram for the full project in progress. And follow me on my photography Facebook page where I'll link to my weekly blog posts!

christmas mini session ~ family of 5 | johns creek family photographer

One of my favorite families! I get to see them often and I love that. Usually for multiple photo sessions each year:) Our christmas mini was perfect once again. This adorable family of 5 is so easy to photograph and I am beyond thrilled with these gorgeous winter images.

We met at a new spot in a familiar location. I love trying out new scenery and this location is a keeper for sure. After the most important family poses, we got some of the kids individually and mom and dad together~ I always love to get the parents alone since that's not one most of us think of taking often enough:)

Another memorable session for the books with the S family. Enjoy a few of my favorites from our evening together!<3

Another awesome family Christmas card photo session. I love that they wanted to bring along doggie and he did so well for the family images with him! This family was so much fun and chose red and black for their wardrobe (for UGA of course!) and they were a pleasure to photograph. Big brother and big sister were so sweet with their baby, you can see how much they adore her from these images.

We met on an abnormally nice December morning for these photos. The light was gorgeous at this atlanta park and I just love the images we were able to get together. I hope you will enjoy these for many years to come, enjoy a few sneak peeks from our time together!<3

precious newborn baby girl | johns creek newborn photographer

Oh how I LOVE newborn baby sessions!!! This precious girl did not disappoint. In fact, she was completely PERFECT and her family was as well. I can't say enough wonderful things about my time with this family. Emma's mom was so welcoming to me, she is a friend of a friend but it felt like I had known her for years. This is one of my very favorite newborn baby girl sessions EVER and I know these images will tell that story. I hope that you treasure these photos of your beautiful Emma forever, P family! family of five fall photos | Johns Creek Family Photographer

Meet the Doldo's! My beautiful friend, Faith, and all her handsome boys! Their oldest son and my Jack are big buddies so I knew what an adorable personality the little man had and the twins couldn't be cuter if they tried!

Faith's husband, Neil, works as the fitness director at the Atlanta Athletic Club, so when Faith mentioned that location as an option, I knew we HAD to go for it. Nothing like a private photo session for your family of five on the golf course! Their perfectly coordinated outfits totally made the session. I had so much fun photographing your family, Faith and Neil, and hope you will enjoy the images for many years to come!

sweet family of 4 ~ brother and sister | alpharetta family photographer

I can't say enough about this sweet family. Their precious children are so blessed to be led by a woman and man of such strong faith. The love that this family shares is evident in each interaction, not only between each other but they portray the same kind of love to those outside their family. I know them from church and have always felt so appreciated, cared for, and loved by them. So naturally, I was honored that they asked me to capture their family this fall. I hope the photos below show the sweet love that this family shares...
